      An Environmental Education Project

The Goal of “When You Teach, You Learn”: The Environmentors Program is to increase children’s awareness and exposure to environmental issues, in fun and interesting ways.  University students studying within the McGill School of Environment ("EnvironMentors") present creative one-hour sessions with classes and environment clubs at schools in Montreal, teaching students of all ages and learning from the experience.  Through this interaction, both sets of students benefit from the open dialogue about environmental issues. McGill students learn about the “nature attitudes” of young people, and the younger students get a hands-on activity with enthusiastic nature lovers!

The project is set-up for a one-time, one-hour classroom visit, but additional sessions are provided upon request, and regular sessions can be arranged.  McGill EnvironMentors will provide background knowledge, materials necessary for the lesson, an interactive demonstration or discussion, as well as information sheets containing concrete examples of what the children can do to contribute to ecological sustainability at home. We believe that armed with their new-found knowledge and information sheets, children can also become environmental leaders by transmitting their knowledge to their family and communities.
